An Afternoon at Sunningdale Heath
Some highlights from a wonderful afternoon at Sunningdale Heath. 36 golfers assembled for some drinks, fourball golf with rounds completed in well under 3 hours and the finest bacon sandwich in the business. Congratulations to Elaine who took the spoils and Peter Handcock as lowest gross with 58. Despite its short length, we firmly believe that Sunningdale Heath offers golfers of all abilities a test and more often than not, requires you to hit far more shots in the bag! Retro Day at Princes – 20th March 2025
We’re kick starting our 2025 event campaign, with a Retro Day at Prince’s, host of the 1932 Open Championship where Gene Sarazen lifted the Claret Jug with his new fangled iron with a beefed up sole, what would become known as ’the sand wedge’. Sarazen’s win at prince’s in ’32 was a watershed moment in the history of Prince’s as well as in the evolution of golf club design. As a reminder, our retro events require you play (wherever possible) with pre-1997 clubs, and bonus points are up for grabs for any retro clothing you are wearing. We’ll be playing the Himalayas and Shore nines, kicking off with breakfast, 18 holes and a late lunch. All for £80 per person, and lodging can be laid on for a small extra cost if you notify us in advance. We might even try and organise a splinter group to take on [...]
Spring Meeting at Wallasey – 29th April 2025

For a taste of our previous Spring Meetings: Addington, Moortown & Alwoodley, and Prince’s and Royal St George’s. Cost: £180

Afternoon at Sunningdale Heath – 3rd October 2025
Sunningdale Heath may be a par 58, but don’t be fooled – it’s a real long iron test and far from easy despite the yardage. Designed by Harry Colt, this charming course offers a quick round, typically wrapped up in just 2.5 hours, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the best bacon roll in the game and a bit of cornhole afterwards. The event was so much fun last year, we had to do it again. All this for just £50 – a perfect afternoon. For a taste of what’s in store, check out our last year’s event here. Cost: £50

CJG x Sounder Golf Retro Extravaganza: West Byfleet Golf Club
People from all over the country descended on West Byfleet Golf Club on the 19th October for our second Retro Event. Everyone playing took things seriously, carefully curating their sets with persimmon, blades, wands and clubs of special meaning. West Byfleet is a wonderful course for such an event, playable and relatively generous off the tee, but with all the intricacy to ensure players wishing to be in the prizes needed all the shots. Huge congratulations to ex Touring Pro Josh White for his 67 and winning the gross, as well as nearest the pin leaving it inside an inch. Bernie Scotland won the nett, despite his son Zane playing with 'his irons' in the event! Thanks again to West Byfleet and Sounder Golf for helping make this event possible, as well as everyones generosity for providing clubs to Entebbe Golf Club in Uganda to help support the growth of [...]
Spring Meeting MMXXIII at Moortown & The Alwoodley Golf Club
Our 2023 Spring Meeting was held at Moortown & The Alwoodley Golf Club on the 10th & 11th May. A celebration of the early work by the great Dr Alister MacKenzie who designed and laid out the courses in Leeds. Alwoodley was his maiden attempt and nervous members - keen to find out whether their money was going to good use - appointed HS Colt to come and check the work by this physician turned architect. Not long after, MacKenzie was part of the group of founding memebrs at Moortown looking to establish a course less than a mile from Alwoodley. He built the now 10th hole 'Gibraltar' and accepted nominations from prospective members hoping to raise the funds to build 9 holes. it was so successful that funding was sufficient to build a full 18 hole course and since then, the position of these two courses in the history [...]

The 2022 Spring Meeting at Prince’s & Royal St. George’s
The spring meeting is a staple of the golfing calendar, whereby a group of people convene following a long cold winter to mark the start of the golfing season. At the start of the year, we thought we would have a go at doing one with a twist! Two days in Kent with music, fireworks, great food, world class golf courses and of course, a group of people who share an unrivalled passion for the game! Special thanks must go to Prince's and Royal St. George's Golf Club who, without their extreme generosity and support for Cookie Jar, the event could simply not have been possible. https://youtu.be/t45go-Aeldk
