Story of a Golf Club – Alwoodley
This is the OG MacKenzie course, a club founded by a number of members from nearby Leeds, one of which was an ambitious Dr who would later go on to design Cypress Point, Royal Melbourne and of course Augusta National. This was the firts course he ever worked on, and his nervous co-members were keen to get the only real household name in the design of golf courses up from London to inspect his work and provide his seal of approval. HS Colt would do just that, and it started a long period where the two worked on courses either collaboratively or at times in competition with one another. For more on the work of Alister Mackenzie we highly recommend looking at the MacKenzie society website, and tkaing some time to visit one of his designs, perhaps his first... Alwoodley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9dmeL8nb18

CJG x Sounder Golf Retro Extravaganza: West Byfleet Golf Club
People from all over the country descended on West Byfleet Golf Club on the 19th October for our second Retro Event. Everyone playing took things seriously, carefully curating their sets with persimmon, blades, wands and clubs of special meaning. West Byfleet is a wonderful course for such an event, playable and relatively generous off the tee, but with all the intricacy to ensure players wishing to be in the prizes needed all the shots. Huge congratulations to ex Touring Pro Josh White for his 67 and winning the gross, as well as nearest the pin leaving it inside an inch. Bernie Scotland won the nett, despite his son Zane playing with 'his irons' in the event! Thanks again to West Byfleet and Sounder Golf for helping make this event possible, as well as everyones generosity for providing clubs to Entebbe Golf Club in Uganda to help support the growth of [...]
151st Open Championship: Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) – ‘Mighty Winds, Mighty Champions’
As we countdown the days to the 151st Open at Royal Liverpool, we're thrilled to bring you the Official Cookie Jar Golf preview film. Mighty Winds, Mighty Champions documents Hoylake's prodigious connection with the professional and amateur game, its rich history and takes a close look at the course and the array of challenges it will pose the world's best next week. https://youtu.be/-vvhvkSdReo
Alnmouth Village Golf Club
The club was established in 1869 making it the oldest 9 hole links in England. The course was designed by the famous Scottish golfer Mungo Park, winner of the 1874 Open Championship at Musselburgh. He was also the club's first professional/greenkeeper. We stopped by here after a game at Goswick last year, and having been told about it by Ronan Rafferty we just couldn't resist. We're so glad we did. This 9 hole layout is the epitome of simplicity. 5 holes away, and 4 coming back, almost like a miniature version of The Old Course at St Andrews with Granny Clark's Wynd crossing the second fairway, and starting / finishing from within the town. There's a lot of history to this little beauty of a course, and we're delighted to bring you this film. https://youtu.be/p_AnBf2oHfY
Spring Meeting MMXXIII at Moortown & The Alwoodley Golf Club
Our 2023 Spring Meeting was held at Moortown & The Alwoodley Golf Club on the 10th & 11th May. A celebration of the early work by the great Dr Alister MacKenzie who designed and laid out the courses in Leeds. Alwoodley was his maiden attempt and nervous members - keen to find out whether their money was going to good use - appointed HS Colt to come and check the work by this physician turned architect. Not long after, MacKenzie was part of the group of founding memebrs at Moortown looking to establish a course less than a mile from Alwoodley. He built the now 10th hole 'Gibraltar' and accepted nominations from prospective members hoping to raise the funds to build 9 holes. it was so successful that funding was sufficient to build a full 18 hole course and since then, the position of these two courses in the history [...]

Goswick Golf Club
Back in October we visited Goswick Golf Club, lying on a remote strip of ground 30 miles north of Newcastle and 6 miles south of Berwick upon Tweed. We're delighted with how this film came out - a break from tradition from our usual films! Goswick is a club with a rich history dating back to 1890. The initial course has evolved over time, steadily stretching northwards with the involvement of James Braid, Willie Park Jnr and more recently Mackenzie & Ebert. Because its slightly off the beaten path, not enough spotlight goes to clubs like Goswick, Seaton Carew or Bamburgh / Dunstanburgh Castle, however this film (and perhaps some more to come) will give you a sneak peak as to what you are missing! https://youtu.be/FTIVP9CXOu8
Netherlands Series – Koninklijke Haagsche (Royal Hague)
Our fifth and final stop on our Netherlands series is from the revered Koninklijke Haagsche, a.k.a. Royal Hague. Whilst the club was the first to be founded in The Netherlands, the course that now plays home to the club was the brainchild of a wealthy Dutch-Jewish businessman Daniel Wolf. This club boasts a rich and fascinating history. The course is bold. Huge features, commensurate with the land it sits on and rounds out the final stages of the work of Colt and his associates in the Netherlands. https://youtu.be/nY-DLzD5Amc
Netherlands Series – Noordwijkse Golf Club
Our fourth stop off in The Netherlands was at Noordwijkse Golf Club. The most recent links course in the country, and product of passionate members who pioneered the project when the club was left without a home in 1972. The land at Noordwijkse is without doubt the strongest golfing terrain we found in the country. Pure white sand, blown out dunes, rolling and crashing landforms. The club are now embarking on the next chapter in their evolution with the assistance of Martin Ebert who is helping the club with a long term plan. https://youtu.be/SDoSEUP9Ehk
